Kansas Krunch II     ... It was a Blast!
. . There were two memberships at the Kansas Krunch.

The Pennington's left Thursday after work. It was a cool evening. Derrick and I ran the heater from Rush Center to Kat House rec area. We arrived about midnight. Some friends from Colorado had already arrived.

After a breakfast of french toast we went out with a ride with our friends from Colo. One was Daryl Surface and his son Kyle. We went up one of the many canyons north of camp. After climbing out and spinning some donuts in a dry lake bed, we took a little break.

Dave Surface of the Green Country Cruisers arrived. His Cruiser is a sleeper in that it has an LT 1 Vett engine 4L60E trans. And an ARB locker. We went to play in an area called Heart attack. But it looked like it would be awhile before we would get through. So the 4 Cruiser owners decided to go run Axle Crusher.

It was tough twisty little canyon. I picked a bad line around a corner and had the rig laying on the passenger side. I kept going and finished removing the flair and dented the quarter behind the rear tire. The flair was picked up and comments were made to the effect that Don takes the whole family along on E ticket rides. We then ran another little canyon that ended at the bottom of Short Bus which is right below the camping area.

After lunch we went to the lake as it was getting hot out. Oh I might also mention that the wind started blowing very strong from the South, and kept it up the rest of the weekend.

After dinner we did a little night run. Very fun. The Kat House Rocks! Saturday morning was the competition. None of us placed. But I thought that Jeff Gerdes (Wichita 4x4 club member) had a very good run. Unfortunately the score keepers did not write his score down. I went for low e.t. and got it. 4:19. I knew I didn't have the gearing to crawl. And I don't like driving over trees either. There was some major carnage. A Blazer broke the right rear axle shaft on the hill climb going over the telephone poles. None of us broke anything. Tough Cruisers!

It was getting too hot for any wheeling, so after a light lunch we went to the lake and stayed COOL!!!!! There were some young folks jumping from a cliff across the lake.

I would estimate it at 30 or 40 foot high. Looked like a real rush! Dave and Daryl offered us a shower before the dinner, which we gladly accepted. So much dirt. We felt much better.

The dinner was BBQ beef. Very good! There was a water cooler blowing and it felt nice in the rec center. And Ryan Rhodes (Wichita 4x4 club member) won a couple small items and the Winch! Congrads to all the winners!

I was wanting to go play before it got too late because I knew there would not be time in the morning. We were headed to the rock pile. We played on the rocks for a while and shot some photos. The Heartland Off Road Assoc. also came and played on the rocks.

We ran Kurt's canyon on our way out. I laid the Cruiser over on it's passenger side climbing out. I mean it was going forward on the right side tires only. I stayed in the gas and it landed on all four. Woo Hoo! Lets do it again!

I also want to tell you about the static electricity in the tent. With the wind blowing so hard and rubbing the rain fly against the tent. Our florescent light would light. And the sparks would jump an inch or more from your finger tips. Never had seen anything like it before.

Our friends from Colorado were impressed with the area. And said they would come back again. It is a great place to go wheeling. We are going back next year. Hope you all do to!
