Poker Run 2002     ... January 2002, Cass Arkansas
. . . At 4:00pm Waggley Hollow was completed, the prizes were distributed, some of the group headed home, there was one more hour of daylight and the remainder of the group ventured to 'wheel the "John Turner" trail. Here's what happened!

The Birfield Experience

I heard the infamous "PING" just before dark at the bottom of a creek! After much effort, we managed to get my 40 out of the creek far enough to pull the grenaded Birfield so I could backtrack out in 2 wd. Let me tell you, that trail is MUCH more difficult in 2wd (and open diff, as well) than it was in 4wd with a frt locker! We decided we should re-name the trail from John Turner to "Randys' Rescue", since that's where Randy had his rear spring hanger ripped from his frame last year and needed a little help to return to civilization; this year I lost my Birfield in a fairly non-imposing creek crossing within a couple hundred yards of Randy's trouble spot. Guess who got the duty of getting me back to civilization this year--if you guessed Randy, you're right! The fun really started when he had to break out his chain saw to cut a tree from UNDER my 40 since it's JAWS were clamped tightly into my spring hangers-front and rear. I think it was THE SAME TREE that caused his undoing last year. In the end (WELL after dark), Randy and his chain saw were victorious-on second thought, maybe we should re-name it RANDY'S REVENGE! I've often heard that "what comes around, goes around" and I was certainly thankful that Randy was there with his dual locked 40 AND his saw to see me out of the woods on this day. He had lots of help from his wife Ellen, Kevin, Jody, James Taggart, Bo, Jacob and Heather (I hope I didn't leave anyone out). It's times like that when you find out who your true friends really are, and I owe them all a BIG THANK YOU, or I would probably still be trying to winch my way out! All in all, for those that missed it, you should have stayed around for the fun!
